Microbiological status of tea sold in Elazığ

Micro/biological status of tea sold in Elazığ was studied in order to collect data on the microtbioological quality of Turkish tea.

Two packages from each of 25 different brands were bought by random sampling and two 5 gramme samples from each package were used for determining total plate count, coliforms, faecal streptococcus, staphylococcus, lactobacillus, thermophileis and mold and yeast. Infusions prepared with boiling water in a 1 : 10 ratio (w/v) were also studied.

Average counts, range and percent distribution of each group were tabulated and evaluated.
