              <title language="eng">The studies on active nor (nucleolar organizer region) carriers chromosomes of akkaraman, german black mutton and f&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;1&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt; crossbreeds</title>

              <affiliationsList><affiliationName affiliationId="1">Selçuk Üniversitesi, Veteriner Fakültesi Zootekni Anabilim Dalı, KONYA</affiliationName></affiliationsList><abstract language="eng">This study has been done to investigate differences within breed and between breeds and to determine the average aktive NOR chromosom numbers of Akkaraman (AKK), German Black Mutton (GBM) and crossbreed (F&lt;sub&gt;1&lt;/sub&gt;). Ten individuals (5 male and 5 female) from each breed were used as material in the study. The chromosome preparations oblained from sheep were painted with NOR-banding method. Thirty metaphase spreads were examined in the chromosome preparation ol each sheep and the average active NOR numbers were determined. The general average active NOR numbers of female and male AKK, GBM and F&lt;sub&gt;1&lt;/sub&gt; cross were estimated 6.10, 6.33 and 6.03; and 6.03, 6.69 and 6.63 respectively. The variation between male and female of AKK, GBM and F1 cross were found not significant. The general breed averages active NOR numbers of AKK. GBM and F&lt;sub&gt;1&lt;/sub&gt; cross were calculated as 6.06, 6.51 and 6.33 respectively. There were no! significant variation between GBM, AKK and F&lt;sub&gt;1&lt;/sub&gt; cross. The study; there were a variation individuals of AKK and GBM and F&lt;sub&gt;1&lt;/sub&gt; crossbreed connected with average active NOR numbers. It is concluded that more studies should be done to investigate the relationship between average active NOR chromosom numbers and yields for improvement of animal production in livestock.</abstract>

              <title language="eng">Some production characteristics of rock partridges (a. graecae) in different management and lighting conditions</title>

Adult Rock partridges were divided into two groups. In first group, there were 3 male and 9 lemales and they were mated in cages and day light. In second group, there were 3 male and 9 female and they were mated in room and artificial light. Average number of egg production, percentage of egg production, egg weight, fertility, hatchability, and hatchability of fertilizing eggs of first and second groups were determined as; 57.88 and 45.38, 43.84 % and 38.45 %, 20.38 g and 21.20 g, 81.82 % and 90.64 %, 75.92 % and 87.96 % and 97.05 % and 92.79 % respectively. There were significant differences between groups respects of hatchability (P&lt;0.05); fertility (P&lt;0.01); egg production and egg weight (P&lt;0.001). But there were no significant differences between groups respects of percentage egg produclion and hatchability of fertilizing eggs (P&gt;0,05). Egg production period of first and second groups were determined as 132 and 118 days respectively. Average body weights ol 4, 8. 12, 16 and 20 weeks age of Partridge chicks were found as 93,08, 236.14, 363,72, 418.95 and 468,00 g respectively. Feed consumption and feed conversion were calculation as 4658,20 g and 10.27 at the end of this study. The researches on management and improvement of egg produclion characteristics and growing period must be carried out of Rock partridges. In addition, economic production of Rock partridges were found as around 12 weeks of ages.</abstract>

              <title language="eng">Growth, fattening performance, slaughtering and carcass characteristics of pheasants (p. colchicus) in different ayes</title>

Chick weight, 4, 8 and t2 weeks old of pheasant weights were determined as 20.76, 175.36, 476.76 and 738.06 g respectively. 14, 16 and 18 weeks old of pheasants were slaughtered. Feed consumption of this weeks were calculated qs 3434.70, 4126.81 and 4964.31 g: feed conversion of this weeks were determined as 3.98, 4.33 and 4.68 respectively. Average body weights of pheasants on fourteenth, sixteenth and eighteenth weeks were determined as; 877.00, 918.00 and 1058.00 g respectively. There were statistically significant differences in average body weights of groups (P&lt;0.05). The dressing percentage ol pheasants a! the same ages were determined as : 74.75 %, 77.15 % and 74.54 % respectively {P&lt;0.05}. Breast and thigh percentage of pheasants were calculated as; 34.18 % and 28.34 %, 34.74 % and 27.66 % and 34,23 % and 27.34 % respectively (P&gt;0.05). As a result of this study its carried out that the pheasants be able to slaughter in 16 weeks age.</abstract>

A total number of 390, day old (Avian) commercial hybrid broiler chicks were used in the study. Material was divided into 3 groups, each consisting ot 5 replicates. The rations of control groups contained maize (0 trilicale), triticale was used at rate of 15% and 20% (Group II) and 30% and 40% (Group III) in broiler chick diets and in broiler diets respectively. The study lasted for 42 days. Live weights averaged were found as 1814.5 (control), 1865.5 and 1866.3 g respectively. The differences were not significant (P&gt;0.05). Feed conversion rate were found as 1.96, 1.92 and 2.01 kg feed/ kg weight gains respectively (P&gt;0.05). In conclusion, the finding of the study indicate that, the addition ol 40% triticale in broiler diets does not have any negative effects on the growth performance.</abstract>

Twenty-one lactating Brown Swiss dairy cattle were used. The research was conducted for 71 day including the first 15 day adjusting period and the last 56 day experiment period. Animals were divided three groups as control, first and second groups according to milk production, body weight, age and lactation period. Cows were fed rations containing 9.8 kg/day concantre and 6 kg/day hay in control group; 3.7 kg/day concantre, 4 kg/day barley, 8.2 kg/day hay and 0.6 kg/day uramet in first group (Ura-ot): 6 kg/day barley straw, 6,5 kg/day barley, 2.6 kg/day sunflower meal, 0.5 kg/day bran and 0.6 kg/day uramei in second group (Ura-sam) , Forage and concantre feeds were weighed daily and ted as two equal meals in group feeding design. Uramei was given two time in a day as top dressing on concantre. Milk was weighed each other two weeks and analysed for milk composition in 28th and 56th day. Average mitk production, milk fat and protein concentration were determined 10.97, 11.05 and 9.11 kg/day; 3,61, 4,02 and 3.78 % ; 3.75, 4,07 and 3.96 % in control, first and second groups, respectively and there was no significant difference between groups (P&lt;0.05) , The feed cost for per kg milk in the first group was found tower 15.4 % than control group and this value was regarded economically important.</abstract>

              <title language="eng">The effects of vitamin c and e on the metabolic stress on angora goat kids</title>

In this study, 50 Angora goats kids of averoged 21 days age wre used, and study was maintained 42 days (until the age of 63 days). The kids of study were split into 5 groups, the group of control kids that were not deported Irom their mathers, the groups of (-) konlrol kids. Vitamin E, n Vitamin C and Vitamin E+C. The kidsof latter four groups were exposed to stress by being seperoted from their mather at the age of 21 days and they were alloved to suckle their mathers only 15 minotes per day. The biood samples of the kids in the groups were taken at the begining of the study and once at two weeks in the pollowing periods. The serum glicose and Cortisol parameters choosen as the parameters of stress were determined. The serum glicose titres were higher significantly (P&lt;0.01) in the groups of (-) Kontrol, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Vitamin E+C than the group ol (+) Kontrol at the begining ol the study. However the dillerences between the glicose litres of the groups becomed statiscally nonsignilicant with the advanced periods of the study. The differences observed in the  titres of serum Cortisol were not significant. The effects of supplamenting C and E vitamins on serum cortizol titres were not signilicant in kids exposed to stress. As a result, it can be thought that the conditions of leeding and management are more important than adding Vitamin C and E in the kids of Angora goats.</abstract>

Cheese samples were divided into two groups. Samples of the first group were dry salted and then vacuum packed. Next group samples were ripened in tin packs containing brine solution of 13% salt content. The changes in chemical, microbiological and sensory properties of the samples were investigated during the ripening period. It was found that the samples of the first group had higher dry matter and fat contents and acidity values, but lower in salt and ash contents than the samples of second group. Also it was observed that salt and ash contents and acidity values were increased in both groups during the ripening period while pH values were decreased. In microbiological view, conforms, total vi-ables, yeast and mould counts were higher in the first group than the second one. Coliforms were decreased in both groups during the ripening period. On the other hand, total viables, yeast and mould counts were decreased in second group. According to sensory evaluations the first group samples were more preferred. The yield of cheese was determined as 15.40%.</abstract>

First group samples were used as control group and no smoke applied, Samples on the second and third groups were dipped into 16 % sodium chloride solution containing 0.5% and 1% liquid smoke respectively for live minutes. Chemical, microbiological and sensory properties of the samples were investigated during the ripening period. There was not significant difference in chemical and microbiological properties among the groups. Microbial counts were decreased during ripening period. Samples ol group 1 and group 2 are more preferred from sensory point of view. It is concluded that the application of 0.5% liquid smoke for five minutes in white pickled cheese production may give some preferable sensory properties to cheese.</abstract>

Renal and urinary bladder stones ol the calves were used as the material. Chemical analyses of the stones were performed by using a stone analysis set (Oxford reagent set, manufactured by Lancer Division of Sherwood Medical, Athy, Co. Kildare, Ire-fand, Product No: 9685-032204). The most common types of renal calculi in this survey on chemical analyses were phosphate &lt;53.64 %) followed by Phosphate+carbonate (12.20 %), carbonate (9.76 %), magnesium (7,32 %), fibrin (4.88 %). The stones containing urate, carbonate+oxalate, calcium+oxalate, oxatate+fibrin, phosphate+fibrin constituted a very low percentage (2.44 %) each type of the stones of the samples examined where as in the urinary bladder stones, the most prevalent was phosphate+carbonate (28.22 %) and followed phosphate (20. 52 %), magnesium (12. 83 %), phosphate+carbonate+urate (7.69 %), carbonat and urate (5,13 % each). Oxalate, fibrin, urate+fibrin, phosphate+carbonale+fibrin, phosphate+carbonate+cystine, magnesium+fibrin, phosphate+urate, carbonale+fibrin containing stones were less common (2.56 % each group).</abstract>

The vitamin C levels of MNL, PMNL and plasma were analysed by spectrophotometry method, the plasma glucose, cholesterol, total protein and albumin concentrations were analysed by autoanalyser. The vitamin C levels of plasma, MNL and PMNL were 4.97 ± 0.29 pg/ml, 0.479 ± 0.055 pg/cell, 0.040 ± 0.004 pg/cell, respectively, plasma glucose, cholesterol, total protein and albumin concentrations were 93.59 ± 1.56 mg/dl, 114.50 ± 6,04 mg/dl, 6.84 ± 0.12 g/dl, 3.48 ± 0.03 g/dl, respectively.The positive correlation between MNL and plasma vitamin C levels (p&lt;0.01) and negative correlation between MNL and PMNL vitamin C levels (p&lt;0.01) has been observed. In addition, there were negative correlation between plasma total protein concentration and the vitamin C levels of plasma (p&lt;0.0t) and MNL (p&lt;0.01) and positive correlation between plasma total protein and plasma glucose levels (p&lt;0.05). In conclusion, it is useful the determine the vitamin C levels of MNL and PMNL together with plasma vilamin C levels lor investigating the vitamin C levels in the body.</abstract>

Blood sera, heparinized and EDTA plasma were obtained from V. Jugularis blood samples; alkaline phosphatase(AP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT). albumin, cholesterol, magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), inorganic phosphor (Pi), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) values were dotermined immediately with a serious of the samples and this parameters were re-peadly measured after stored 100 days in - 20 °C, Cu, Zn values were measured by atomic absorbsiyon spectrophotometer (Buck Scientific modem 200A). Other analyses were made by spectrophotometer (Shimadzu UV-2100). In serum, EDTA and heparinized plasma treatments for 0. days Ihere were found significant differences between groups as albumin (P&lt;0.01), P (P&lt;0,001), Mg (1X3.05).Cholesterol (P&gt;0.05), AP (P&lt;0.001), ALT (P&gt;0.05) GGT (P&gt;0,05), Cu (P&lt;0.01), Zn (P&lt;0.001), Ca (P&lt;0.01). In addition this differences between groups for 100. days were found to be P&lt;0.001; P&lt;0.001; P&lt;0.001; P&gt;0.05; P&lt;0.001; P&gt;0.05: P&gt;0.05; P&gt;0.05; P&lt;0.001; P&lt;0.001 respectively. For the all parameters dillerences between 0. and 100. days were revised in treatment groups and obtained various statistically significant results.</abstract>

Clinical and laboratory parameters were observed at recommended dose and time period. In this study, healthy 6 dogs (different age and sex) were used as materials. Oxytetracyciine (Primamycine-Pfizer®) was injected (20 mg/kg IM, one a day) to all dogs during 14 days. In 14th day of experiment, it was observed that statistically significant (p&lt;0.01) decrease at concentrations of ICa and adjusted Ca, no significant increase (p&gt;0.0S) at serum levels ot PTH, IP and Mg, and no significant decrease (p&gt;0.05) at serum level of vitamin D. As a result, oxytetracyciine may change metabolisms of Ca, Mg, P and vitamin D. therefore it must be considered that metabolisms of Ca, Mg, P and vitamin D during long term oxytetracyciine treatment.</abstract>

Although the plasma cholesterol-rich ration for 4 weeks significantly (p&lt;0.05) increased as compared with the control group, the plasma cholesterol levels in Ihe group supplemented with garlic powder was found to be significantly lower than in both the group received the cholesterol-rich ration alone and the group fed the ration with aspirin {p&lt;0.05),The heart rates in the control group ( 252.7 ) and in the groups supplemented with garlic ( 286.0 ), aspirin ( 271.7 ) and lonely cholesterol ( 276.3 ) were not significantly different from each other .The duration and voltages of P, QRS and T waves measured in lead II and Ihe durations of P-Q and Q-T intervals in the same lead showed no significant difference between groups.lt was not also determined any changes in respect of the shape and position of the waves in all leads of the treatments as compared those in the control group.</abstract>

              <title language="eng">Control of the blood coagulation system in feline immunodeficiency virus- (fiv) seropositive cats</title>

              <affiliationsList><affiliationName affiliationId="1"></affiliationName></affiliationsList><abstract language="eng">The blood coagulation systems were examined in 42 feline immunodeficiency virus- (FIV) seropositive cats measuring the prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), thrombin time (TT) and fibrinogen concentration (FC). In addition, the plasma albumine and total protein concentrations (TPC) were measured in the same cats. In all cats, PT measured with the optimated test (31.95(1.99 sec.) was between the normal ranges, and therefore, there was not any disorder in the exogeneous system of the blood coagulation. Twelve of infected cats (28.6%) showed a pathologic prolonged aPTT (25.6+18.52 sec.), and 15 of cats (35.7%) showed a prolonged TT (23.73+6.98 sec.). FC in 20 cats (54.05%) and TPC in 10 cats (24.4%) were higher than the reference ranges, but the albumine concentration of 11 infected cats (36.6%) was found to be lower than the normal ranges, TPC and FC in the infected cats with a prolonged TT (30.09±1.89 sec.) were found higher than the cats with a normal (19.89+0,38 sec.) TT (p&lt;0.05). The concentration of albumine in the infected cats with a prolonged TT were observed lower than the cats with a normal TT (p&lt;0.05) In conclusion, this study showed that the FIV seropositive cats had no disorder in the exogeneous coagulation system, But, the endogeneous system of the blood coagulation and the fibrin formation were blocked. Disorders in the endogeneous coagulation system may be the result of decreased activities of factors and blocked fibrin formation. Although the FC was found as normal and high, there was a prolonged TT in infected cats. In spite of decreased plasma albumine concentration, the high TPC in the infected cats, especially in cats with prolonged TT may show that the increase of acute phase proteins such as±and±globulins, and gammaglobulins in the form of paraproteins may have disturbed the formation of fibrin from fibrinogen. Disorders in the endogeneus coagulation sys.tem and in the formation of fibrin did not cause hemorrhagica! sign in the infected cats. According to these results, disorders of the blood coagulation in FIV-seropositive cats may not be dangerous for spontaneous bleeding.</abstract>

The study was carried out on 20 (6 Brangus, 14 Brown Swiss) cows, age ranging 3 - 5 years old. The cows were randomly devided into two groups. In group I (n=10), cows were treated with an intramuscular injection of 20 µg GnRH (day=0) a random stage of the estrous cycle, followed by PGF2&amp;#945;&lt;/sub&gt; 7µg days later (day=7). in group II (n=10), cows were given two injections of PGF2&amp;#945;&lt;/sub&gt; 11 day apart (day= 0, and 11). The cows were observed to determine the onset of the estrus for four days and then inseminated 12 hours after the onset of estrous. Blood samples were collected to determine plasma progesterone levels, in group I on the day ol GnRH and PGF2&amp;#945;&lt;/sub&gt; injections and at estrus. and in group II on the day of each injection of PGF2&amp;#945;&lt;/sub&gt; and at estrus. The mean interval from synchronization to onset of estrus, synchronization and pregnancy rates of the groups were determined. Plasma progesterone ievets on days 0 and estrous were similar (p &gt; 0,05) between the two groups, but on the day of synchronization, in group İ were found to be higher progesterone levels than in group 11 (p &lt; 0.01). The mean interval from synchronization to estrus in group I and II were found 54,3 ± 3.2 and 62.2 ± 3.2 hours, respectively (p&gt; 0.05). The synchronization rate were higher in group I (% 100) than in group II (% 80) (p&lt; 0.01), and pregnancy rate of the group I and II were % 60 and % 40 respectively (p&lt; 0.05), The distribution of the estrous in group I concentrated between 40 and 60 hours following the synchronization, but in group II were a homogen distribution between 40 and 80 hours after the synchronization. As a conclusion, application of a GnRH analogue prior to synchronization of estrus with an injection of PGF2&amp;#945;&lt;/sub&gt; may provide higher results than two injections of PGF2&amp;#945;&lt;/sub&gt; lor estrus synchronization in cows.</abstract>

Nerves arising from brachial plexus to wrist were dissecated. Alter the determination of morphologic findings, 0.2 - 0.4 cm. width sections were taken nerve cut faces were dyed and then morphometrical measurements were made at stereomicroscope. Medianoulnar nerve was formed by caudal bundles ol ventral fascicle in chicken, craniolateral bundles in duck and lateral bundles in pigeon, while pectoral nerve was formed by cranial bundles of ventral fascicle in chicken, caudomedial bundles in duck and medial bundles in pigeon. In chicken and duck at 1 cm. proximat ol elbow joint, cranial bundles of medianoulnar nerve formed median nerve, caudal bundles formed ulnar nerve, while in pigeon caudomedial bundles formed median nerve and craniolateral bundles formed ulnar nerve. It was found that median nerve innervated proximal part and ulnar nerve distal part muscle and skin ol antebrachium.               <title language="eng">Using possibilities of unsalable milk in calf feeding</title>

Also unsalable milk product has been fermented and fed to calves instead of commercial milk replacors or normal milk. Fermented colostrum for young calves is an excellent source of nutrients. Also it is an effective and economic alternative to whole milk or milk re placer in diet of young calves, Mastitic milk and discard milk (unmarketable milk from cows that were treated for mastitis, metritis or other healthy problems) may be fed fresh, natural fermented or preserved with on organic acid and other chemical (NaHC03, Na-benzoat, bacterial culture, formaldehyde) for subsequent use. Abnormal milk (bloody or watery) shouldn&#039;t be fed. Milk from cows treated with antibiotics for mastitis and other disorders can be fed safely to calves, 11 can be fed in Iresh or fermented form.</abstract>

Each sample was divided into two pieces and one of Ihem was processed by routine histological techniques and immersed in paraffine blocks. The seclions were stained with hematoxylene-eosin, trichrorne and Pappenheimis panoptic slain. The other half of the sample was immersed in gelatine and stained with the same as the paraffine sections. In light microscobic investigation, tissue types in each microscopic field were counted and the data was analysed statistically in order to determine whether there was any relation between addition ratio of the organs and their observation incidence in the sections. By comparison the staining properties and histological structure of the tissues in the sections prepared by different processing procedures, an appropriate processing and staining method for sausage histology was outlined. A close relationship were observed between the addition ratio of the organs and their observation frequency in the sections, although there was not any statistically significant difference among the groups. With the advantages of paraffine method such as, sectioning is relatively easy, staining properties and preservation of the tissues are perfect; it has also some disadvantages such as time consuming, more chemicals needed and some of these chemicals are carcinogen. For these reasons, the gelatine embedding method was superior lo the paraffine method. When compared the staining methods, Irichrome staining gave the best results with its capability oi staining the epithelial, connective, muscular, cartilage tissues in different colors, in 18 (37 %) of the 48 sausage samples obtained from markets, the organ sections, which were prohibited by the related items of rules and regulations of Food Standards, were observed. As a result histological examination has been assumed a useful method in addition to the chemical, microbiological and organoleptical methods in the.control and classification of the fermented Turkish sausages.</abstract>

              <title language="eng">A clinical study using collagenase enzyme in the treatment of open or infected wounds</title>

For a material, patients consisted of 13 dogs (10 pointer and 3 German shepherd) and 4 horses (1 akha! teke, 1 arap and 2 english). All had varying types of wounds trom superficial to ulcerated. Animals were brought for examination at the Gemlik Military Veterinary School Animal Hospital. In this study, topical collagenase was used only when routine methods had failed to heal ihe wound. Novuxol pomad was used on the wounds. After 7 days assessment of inflammation appeared reduced with wounds becoming smaller. By the 10th day all wounds had completely healed. Notably, epitheliazation had started on dermal edge of wounds by 4-5 days. Concluding that collagenase treatment can assist in wound healing were conventional methods have no succeeded.</abstract>
