              <title language="eng">Clinical, laboratory and pathological findings in cerebrocortical necrosis (ccn) induced experimentally in the lambs</title>

Veteriner Fakültesi Patoloji Anabilim Dalı, KONYA</affiliationName></affiliationsList><abstract language="eng">This study was undertaken to determine pathological changes ol cerebrocortical necrosis (CCN) experimentally induced by given amprolium in lambs. Six healthy lambs, aging between 7 and 9 months and weighting between 11 and 15 kg were used as a material. Six lambs were divided into two groups to be three animals in each group ( group l,ll). Amprolium ( 600 mg/kg/day) was given per oral to the both groups of lambs by stomach tube during experiment. The symptoms of CCN in iambs were observed between 29 and 63 days of the experiment While the lambs in the group II were treated with thiamine ( 500 mg /day) after clinical symptoms of CCN were appeared, the lambs in the group I were not applied any treatment. Plasma tiamin concentration decreased dramatically from 4.42 µg/ml to 0 62 µg/ml (p&lt; 0 01) and aftering treatment, inclined to 3.2 µg/ml in the lambs of group li Serum CPK, ALT, AST ve glucose concentration increased dramatically (p&lt;0 01) The lambs in the group I were necropsied when the all symptoms ol CCN were observed. The lambs in the group II were necropsied when the clinical symptoms of CCN were disappered after treatment. At the necropsy, meningial hiperemia, swollen and oedematus brain tissues were observed in all the lambs ol group I. The slight oedema in the brain was detected in the lambs group II. Histologically, ichemic neuronal changes, perivasculer and perineuronal oedema, focal necrosis in cerebellar cortex and colliculus were determined in all the lambs of group I. The results of this research work showed that using long term and high dose of amprolium in lamb caused cerebrocortical necrosis and deficies thiamin of lambs with thiamin treatment would be of benefit in the care of CCN.</abstract>

              <title language="eng">Effect of onion oil on some haematological parameters in dogs with experimentally induced hypercholesterolemia</title>

The dogs were divided into two equal groups as control and experimental Both groups were fed diet containing 0.2% cholesterol for 16 days. At 10 th. day of this period, plasma cholesterol levels were incereased four times to begining of this period in both groups. The increases in cholesterol levels in both groups caused no roughness in erytrocytes surface After 10 th day of 16 day period, experimental group received daily 50µ1 of onion oil with 200 g of ground meat addi-ton to cholesterol-supplemented diet whereas control group continued feeding cholesterol-suplemented diet and 200 g of ground meat for six days. At the 5 th. and 6 th. days of period of onion oil administration (15 th. and 16 th. days of total period). Plasma cholesterol levels in experimental group decreased slightly higher than control group and before onion oil administation, while plasma glucose level decreased significantly as compared to before onion oil administration and the same sampling time of control group (P&lt;0,05) In the study, before and after hypercholesterolemia and after onion oil administration, it was not determined striking changes in respect of erythrocytes, leucocytes counts, haemoglobine amount and haematocrit values in both groups and between groups.</abstract>

Anabilim Dalı, KONYA</affiliationName></affiliationsList><abstract language="eng">In this study, the production of aflatoxin at a grade appropriate for dietary anatoxin feeding studies were performed under our laboratory conditions. After sporufation of Aspergillus parasiticus NRRL 2999 strain in the tubes containing Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA), the spores were removed by washings with 0.005 % Triton X-100 {Merck) and an enriched suspension of spores were obtained. Following determination ol the spore numbers in per ml. of suspension, the suspension was used to inoculate the sterilized rice In erlenmeyer flasks and after inoculation the flasks were in to an incubator for fermentation at 28 &quot;C. At first stage of the study, thirlylour erlenmeyer flasks were fermented. On the 2nd day of fermentation lour erlenmeyers were removed because thai rice kernels formed a large compact mass After seven days fermentation, aflatoxin levels of the (lasks were determined by Fiuorescence Spectrophotometry. The mean aflatoxin level of thirty flasks was approximately 62.71 mg/kg (ppm). At second stage, three groups of erlenmeyers each having six ones, were fermented for 6,9, and 12 days. Aflatoxin levels were determined as follows; 30, 16 mg/kg. 29 65 mg/kg and 29.58 mg/kg respectively. Observation of no increase after 6 th day of the fermentation. As a result, 62.71 mg/kg total aflatoxin level were produced on rice, provides a sufficient amount for dietary aflatoxin feeding studies.</abstract>

Veteriner Fakültesi, Cerrahi Anabilim Dalı, KONYA</affiliationName></affiliationsList><abstract language="eng">The study was undertaken to determine the effects of short and long-term local administration ol at-ropine.which is frequently used for treatment of various eye diseases and preanaesthetic medication,on tear production.Eight healty mongrel dogs were used in the study To observe the short-term effects of local atropine administration, the dogs have taken one drop of t% atropine sulphate solution on the right eye after obtaining the normal lacrimal secrete amount of right and left eyes by Schirmer I tear test and the tear values of each eyes were measured at 15,30,60,90,120,240,360 and 480 minutes intervals by same method e To confirme the long-term effects of atropine,the same animals have taken one drop of atropine solution or the right eye every morning and Schirmer I tear test values of each eyes were measured for seven days. After the completion of drug administration,measurements of each eyes were continued two times per day for seven days. The short-term use of atropine was resulted in a decrease of right eye tear production on an average of 34% after 90 minutes and approached to normal vaiues after 240 minutes meanwhile the left one had a decrease on an average of 22.7% after 60 minutes and reached to beginning values after 90 minutes.ln the long-term use of atropine, an increase of tear production was confirmed and found conspicuous statistically in the course of seven days after the completion of drug administration.</abstract>

              <title language="eng">The chemical and microbiological quality of pastrami produced by using various salting techniques and kept at+4°c</title>

At the begining of the storage periods, moisture contents, salt contents, pH and water activity (a&lt;sub&gt;w&lt;/sub&gt; ) values of pastrami samples applied dry, dipping and enjection techniques were respectively detected 42.65 - 43.36 and 45.16 %; 7.47, 8,58 and 6,18 %, 5.70, 5.46 and 5.97; 0.85, 0.86 and 0,88, During storage periods significiant decreaments in the moisture contents of pastrami samples applied various sailing techniques aw observed because of drying effects in moisture contents. Parallely, Water activity (a&lt;sub&gt;w&lt;/sub&gt;) values of pastrami samples were decressed and salt content of pastrami samples were increased. During this period, the difference pH values of pastrami samples among the groups were not faund to be significant.There was no significant differences in the number of microorganizms (total count .Staphylococcus-micrococcus, Lactobacillus, mold and yeast) of the samples among the groups at the 60&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; day of the experiment. It was concluded that depending upon salting techniques the pastramies loasing chewing properties became dry and salting because of significant decreament in moisture contents and increaments in salt contents at the end of the storage period.</abstract>

which were provided 5 M Hz linear-array transuder between days 42 and 85 of pregnancy in 102 ewes which
were Merino, Akkaraman and Awassi bred. No limitation was made water and lood of the ewes before examination.
The ewes were examined while standing and scanning were done transabdominally on the right side.
The ultrasonic results were compared with actual lambing. Accuracy 73.52%, sensitivity 70.49%, specifity
78.04%, determination of pregnancy 82.69%, and determination of not pregnancy 64.00% for A mode and
accuracy 89.21%, sensıtivity 93.44%, specifity 82.92%, determination of pregnancy 89.06% and determination
of not pregnancy 89.47% for B mode were found. Results of this study ındıcated that pregnancies may be
able to determine accurately 73.52% with A mode ultrasound and 89.21% with B moda real-time ultrasonography
between days 42-85 of gestation in sheep.</abstract>

Dogs were either sex and were 3 months to 3 years old. Serum concentrations of total protein,albumin, sodium, potassium
and activity of serum aspartate aminotransferase were measured. The mean values for these paramaters
were 5.34±1 .38 g/dl, 3.42±0.64 g/dl, 130.2±14.63 mM o lll, 4.91±0.81 mM o llL and 38.1 ±9.05 U/L respectively.</abstract>

Average values of viable aerobes, coliforms, staphylococcus, taecal streptococcus, lactobacillus- leuconostoc - pediococcus,
proteolytic, psychrophile, yeast and Mold were 6.9 x 107/g., 1.8 x 105/g., 1.2 x 106/g., 6.9 x 105/g., 8.5 x 106/
g., 1.3 x 106/g., 3.0 x 106/g., 5.1 x 105/g. respectively and average of pH values was 5.19. Asa result. it was seen that
microbiologically 94.0 % of Şavak white pickled cheese differed from the values of standards and were potentially
hazardous for public health.</abstract>

Hens were dıvıded 9 groups to 3x3 factorial design.
Three commercial laying hybrits groups were Hysex Brown (HB), Hyline W-77 (HY) and Babcock B-300 (BB)
and 3 varıous limestone feedıng groups were 8.5 % finely ground limestone (K), 8.5 % grit limestone (G) and
8 5 % fınely ground lımestone + ad lib. grıt limestone (+G). Laying performanca and egg shell quality were
measured during 12 months Egg yield of +G was lower than the others (p&lt;:0.01). But significant interaction was
found between hybrid and feeding groups (p&lt;0.05). The negative effect of +G was not seen in HY group. Spe·
sifıc gravıty (SG) of +G was hıgher than other two groups (p&lt;0.01 ). SG values were 1 086, 1 084, 1.087 g/cm&lt;sup&gt;3&lt;/sup&gt;
respecııvely, ın groups HB. HY, BB Avarege egg weight of HB was the heavıest than the other two hybrıds +G
group concumed more feed for 1 kg egg than K group. this values found as 2 00. 2.10 2 15 kg, respectıvely, in
K, G and +G groups There were no signıfıcanı dıfferences in mortalıty rates among groups Asa result the posıtive
effects of ad lib. grit lımestone feedıng was seen in HY hybrid but in the other hybrids. ground lımestone

healthy dogs were usedas materials. Flunixin meglumine (FinadynR) was injected intramuscularly (1.1 mg/kg) to each dog. Venous
blood and synovial fluid for determination of plasma and synovial fluid flunixin meglumine concentration were collected at 4 and 8 th
hours alter drug administration. Concentration of flunixin meglumine in plasma and synovial fluid were analysed by HPLC As a result,
ratio of passing of flunixin melumine into synovial fluid was found to be 47% and 23% at 4 and 8 th hours, respectively.</abstract>

count and the methylene blue reduction time was found to be significant ( p &lt; 0.01 ). In conclusion, the hygienic qualities
of the ıce-cream samples examined were low and didn&#039;t fit to the recommended microbiological standards.</abstract>

Maxicrop was added to basaı dlet at the levels of 0. 1, 2 and 4 %, and whether ıts toxic etfects were determıned.The results of this study were summarised as follows. 1. No positive effect of seaweed extract on egg productlon, egg weight. feed efficiency and body
weıght was determıned 2 Seaweed extracı atfected positively to yolk color. 3. Seaweed extract may use in the dıets of laying quails up to 4 % without deleterious effects.</abstract>

Besides the various formulas and technological methods have been used, also the effects of several factors such as tempareture, moisture and duration were also investigated. The poultry sausage samples developped by mixing chicken meat, beef and soybean flour in certain percentages (designed in groups) were examined from the chemical, microbiological and organoleptic point of view. All the samples were analysed at various stages of aging (1&lt;sup&gt;st&lt;/sup&gt;, 3&lt;sup&gt;rd&lt;/sup&gt; and 7&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt;) and storage (14&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt;, 21&lt;sup&gt;st&lt;/sup&gt; and 30&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt;) days significant differences were determined in chemical composition of poultry sausage according to the stages of aging and storage. At first day, moisture, protein and fat contents and acidity values showed differences. At 3&lt;sup&gt;rd&lt;/sup&gt; day only value of acidity, at 7&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; day moisture, ashand water activity (a&lt;sub&gt;w&lt;/sub&gt;) values, at 14&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; day fat ash, salt and aw values, at 21&lt;sup&gt;st&lt;/sup&gt; day moisture, protein, fat, ash and salt contents and value of pH and finally at 30th protein, fat and salt contents of sausage among the groups showed significant differences. There was no significant differnce in mikroflora between the groups in both aging and storage. Although the group C&lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt; differed from the other groups in the number of Staphylococcus - micrococcus microorganisms at the begining stage of aging. It was detected that the number of total microorganisms and Lactobacillus species increased among aging and storage while coliform bacteria and yeasts-moulds showed significant and Staphylococcus - micrococcus species showed slight decreasing. After 7&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; day coliform bacteria was not detected. It was determined that the groups of C&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt; and C&lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt; (consisting of chicken meat and beef) were more preferable in organoleptically, The groups B1 and B2 which were consisting of chicken meat beef and soybean flour, were detected poor in organoleptic determination. As a result it was concluded that poultry sausage might be a suitable product, producing by mixing chicken meat and beef especially using reformed chicken.</abstract>

The most important unwanted eflect of chloramphenicol is depression of the bone-marrow resulting in pancytopenia- an effect which may occur even with very low doses in some indivudiats.Within the Turkey the drug is approved for use only in non-food producing animals: it is illegal to use the drug in food animals. Prohibition of chloramphenicol for use in food animals is based in the tendency of chloramphenicol or its metabolites to produce aplastic anemia in certain susceptibie people. In this review, the myelotoxic effects of chloramphenicol and its metabolites are summarized.</abstract>

During 5 weeks, the animals fed diets containing 0, 0.01, 0.1 and 1 % extract. The effects of Maxicrop on body weight, daily gain, feed intake, feed efficiency, histologic changes in lymphoid tissues and some carcass parameters in quails were investigated. In the second trial, total 20 day old Japanase quails were divided 4 groups. Extract was added to basal diet at the levels of 0, 1,2 and 4 %, and whether its toxic effects were determined. The trial was lasted at 4 weeks. The results of this study were summarised as follows: Body weights and daily gains were not affected from of seaweed extract. In the group fed 1 % extract feed intake increased while feed efficiency decreased (P&lt;0.05). No effect of extract on histological characteristics of lymphoid tissues and some carcass parameters was determined. It was found that seaweed extract up to 4 % in the diets of quails no pathological lesions.</abstract>

Eighty, one day old Japanese quail chicks were used in this experiment They were randomly distributed in four groups, each including 20 chicks. The chicks in group l(control), II, III and IV were fed control ration, the ration containing 1, 0,1 and 0.01 % seaweed extract, respectively until they reached 5 weeks of age. The animals were offered the rations and the water ad iibitum. At 1 st. 2 nd and 3 rd weeks of age. 5 chicks of each group were randomly slaughtered for blood withdrawal from each chicks. At the and of the first week, the erythrocyte count, hemoglobine amount, haematocrit value, plasma glucose and total protein levels in group II ted ration caontaining %1 seaweed extract were found higher than other groups altough it was no differences among all groups (P&gt;0.05). At the termination of the fifth week, erythocyte count, hemoglobine amount and haemotocrit value in group ll were determined signifacantly higher than group I and IV (P&lt;0.05). At that time the plasma glucose and total protein levels were found obviously higher in group II as compared to other groups and plasma glucose level in group II was significantly different than group I and IV (P&lt;0.05) During the whole experiment, it was not dtermined striking changes in respect to leucocyte types, leucocyte and trombocyte counts in all groups.</abstract>

Veteriner Fakültesi, Fizyoloji Anabilim Dalı, KONYA</affiliationName><affiliationName affiliationId="2">Özel Nükleer Tıp Merkezi, KONYA</affiliationName></affiliationsList><abstract language="eng">In this investigation, 24 Swiss Brown Cows which were clinically healthy and similar age were used During the two month, the blood samples were taken from dry cows and early, mild an late lactalion animals at 15 days intervals Total thyroxine (TT&lt;sub&gt;4&lt;/sub&gt;), total triiodothyronine (TT&lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt;), glucose and total cholesterol levels In the blood serum were determined Daily milk production ot the animals in the lactation stages were measured The mean daily milk production in the early, mild and late lactation cows were found to be 13.94 lt, 10.56 It and 8.69 It respectively. It was determined significantly differences among the mean blood serum TT&lt;sub&gt;4&lt;/sub&gt; (4.19 µg/dl, 4.19 µg/dl, 4.50 µg/dl and 4 64 µg/dl respectively) TT&lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt; (95.67 ng/dl, 106.89 ng/dl. 110, 82 ng/dl and 106 10 ng/dl respectively) glucose (57.94 mg/dl, 58.08 mg/dl, 62 41 mg/dl and 64 35 mg/dl respectively) and total cholesterol (94.34 mg/dl, 93.66 mg/dl, 88.46 mg/dl and 86,11 mg/dl respectively levels of dry animals and cows in the early, mild and late lactation stages. Based on results, it was concluded that lactation was significantly affected the levels of the blood serum TT&lt;sub&gt;4&lt;/sub&gt;, TT&lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt;, glucose and total cholesterol depend on daily milk production in the cows.</abstract>

For this purpose,32 egg type male chickens at 1 day of age obtained from a commercial hatchery were used as materials.Animals were divided into 4 equal groups.First group was keept as control group.The other groups were used as treatment group 1.2,3. and administrated 5,10,30 mg/kg of PCB with food respectively. Animals were fed and watered ad libitum during the experiment 40 days End of the experiment.blood samples were collected heart puncture and after cutting all of the animals liver samples were taken immediately Blood serum cholesterol,triglycerides and AST values were determined spec-trophotometrically(Shimadzu 2100),Na and K levels were performed with Flame Photometer Plasma vitamin A and vitamin E values were measured with HPLC The lipid infiltrations in the cytoplasma of liver pa-ranchymal cells in controtreatment 2 and 3.groups were miid,but the other treatment group was moderate. Cholesterol, triglycerides, AST, vitamin A and vitamin E values were different from control group and found statistically significant(P&lt;0.05).Na and K levels in the groups were not changed statistically As a result.the changing of some blood parameters were correlated with the dose level of 5,15,30 mg/kg PCB The tower levels of PCB were not produced signilicant fatty liver In chickens.</abstract>

              <title language="eng">A study on processes of some haematological parameters in growing male and female japanese quails (coturnix coturnix japonica)</title>

Thirty five mate and 35 female, 1 to 8 week-aged Japanese quails were used in this study Haematological examination were carried out in 5 mate and 5 female quails at 1 st. 2 nd, 3 rd 4 th, 5 th, 6 th and 8 th week of ages The red blood cell (RBC) counts, haemoglobine amounts (Hb) and hematocrit values (PCV)) in both groups increased significantly with increased age (P&lt; 0 05) The RBC, Hb and PCV were found higher in male than female in all the age periods. The RBC was significantly higher in males (3 65x 10&lt;sup&gt;6&lt;/sup&gt;) than females (3 28x 10&lt;sup&gt;6&lt;/sup&gt;) at 8 week of age (P&lt;0,05), The white blood cell (WBC) and thrombocyte counts did not show evidently changes, whereas WBC in females (24-28x 10&lt;sup&gt;3&lt;/sup&gt;) were found slightly higher than males (21-26 x 10&lt;sup&gt;3&lt;/sup&gt;) at all weeks, in the percentage of leucocyte types were not determined any differences between sexes during eight weeks and the lymphocyte percentages (57-70%) were drastically higher than heterophils (24-36%) in both groups There was no differences between sexes in respect to the blood cell sizes where as RBC sizes were bigger in females than males at either 1 st and 8 th weeks. On the other hand, in sizes of thrombocyte and leucocyte types in both groups were not determined differences between ı st and 8 th weeks, but RBC sizes at 8 th week in both groups decreased significantly as compared with 1st week (P&lt;0 05). Plasma glucose, cholesterol and total protein levels in both sexes increased gradually until 8 th week and plasma glucose level in males and plasma total protein level in female were higher, without differences between sexes in all ages (P&gt;0.05)</abstract>

              <title language="eng">The use of flunixin meglumine and dexamethasone in acute noninfectious  keratoconjunctivitis traumatica</title>

Veteriner Fakültesi, Cerrahi Anabilim Dalı, KONYA</affiliationName></affiliationsList><abstract language="eng">This study was conducted on those animals with acute noninfectious keratoconjunctivitis caused by plant materials Nonsteroidal (flunixin meglumine) and steroidal (dexamethasone) treatments were given to help reduce the inflammatory reactions on 34 clinical patients; 30 of which is iamb, 2 are calves, 1 is a goat and 1 is a dog. In addition to this, 8 experimental study were done using dogs totaling 42 animals.&lt;p&gt;

Flunixin meglumine (0.5 mg/kg per eye) and dexamethasone (2.5 mg/per eye) were injected subconjunctival^ 23 and 19 animals, respectively, once a day for three days, No antibiotics and antiseptics were used at this time period. Disappearance of corneal vascularization, conjunctival hyperemi, lacrimal tears, pain and blapharospazm, was observed of theree days. Decrease of the corneal opacity was observed only on 5 with flunixin meglumine and 8 with dexamethasone injected animals But two weeks later after the cessation of injection, complete disappearence of corneal opacity was observed.</abstract>

Anabilim Dalı, KONYA</affiliationName></affiliationsList><abstract language="eng">In the present study the aim was to investigate the pathological conditions in the ovarium and fallopian tubes of ewes slaughtered at Konya abattoirs For this purpose, the reproductive tracts of 4370 ewes Irom different breeds were examined. During this study, in 210 cases (4.8%) ovaries and in 33 cases (0.75%) fallopian lubes showed some pathological conditions. The pathological changes in and around ovary were classified as follows; parovarian cysts (3.27%), follicular cysts (0.82%), cystic corpora lutea (0.16%), tubo-ovarian cysts (0.04%), oophoritis (0 14%), periovaritis and adhesions (0.53%), and male pseudohermaphroditismus (0,02%). Pathological changes of oviduct were hydrosalpinx(0.25%), salpingitis (0 25%), melanosis (0.07%). and me sosa I ping it i s - adhesions (0.39%).</abstract>
