In this study, formation of the portal vein and vessels joining to the portal vein were investigated For this purpose, as a material, 13 Akkaraman sheep were used as as material.

Portal vein was formed by the cranial mesenteric and splenic veins. As a third tributary, the gastroduodenal vein enters the portal vein. It was observed that the splenic vein is thicker than the cranial mesenteric vein in Akkaraman sheep.

The splenic vein is formed by the pancreatic veins, epiploic branch, dexter ad sinister ruminal veins, reticuler vein and sinister gastric vein.

It was seen that the cranial mesenteric vein is formed by the caudal pancreatic duodenal vein, jejunal veins, ileic veins, and ileocolic vein.
